Photos need to be crisp and have a clear image of the pets features, especially the eyes. I may not accept a project if the photos are too blurry, dark, or from an odd angle. I can not “fill in the details.” If an eye is not visible in the photo, I wont make one up.
- USE A GOOD CAMERA – a new smartphone or a digital camera (one of the big ones with a lens – a DSLR)
- NO ZOOM – Fill the frame with the subject. Zooming in across a field is still across a field.
- NATURAL LIGHTING – A cloudy day outside is perfect. No harsh sunlight and NO flash or night time lighting.
- SHOOT AT EYE LEVEL – Get down on their level or bring them up to capture their eyes and natural expression. Have a helper to shoot or entertain your pet.
- SEND MULTIPLES – Take lots of shots. Delete lots of shots. Send 3-6 images. If you don’t want the collar – remove it. If eye or hair color is really important, send a clear image of their eyes or fur.
- HIGH RESOLUTION FILES – Send original “big” files as an email attachment or file share. Screenshots, social media and text images are downsized and low resolution. They will not have close up details.
About Copyrights – professional photos are copyrighted and you must have the artist’s permission to have it reproduced.

Not always a good idea
Nope
Sometimes we only have a few images of a beloved pet who has passed. In this case, forward the images on to me and I will review them and we can discuss the options.
